About Once Upon A Book Fair

Once Upon a Book Fair was born from a simple but powerful idea: authors deserve a local and affordable place to share their stories, and readers deserve more opportunities to discover them. In 2022, founder and CEO Tanya Ross and a fellow author began envisioning a North County event that would celebrate literacy, showcase local talent, and build a dynamic literary community. With the help of the Escondido Public Library and 25 participating authors, the very first fair came to life in Grape Day Park. When Tanya saw how deeply it resonated with attendees and writers alike, she knew this story was only just beginning.

Today, Once Upon a Book Fair continues to grow in size, spirit, and impact. Although it is not yet a nonprofit, it is now a certified business with the City of Escondido and remains a true passion project, not a profit-making venture. Tanya’s goal has never been financial gain. She works to keep the event accessible, affordable, and centered on elevating authors, not burdening them..

Join us for Once Upon a Book Fair on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 12–5 p.m. at the Mershops North County Mall, 272 E Via Rancho Pkwy, Escondido. Admission is free!

Step into a world of imagination as nearly 70 authors of mystery, thrillers, YA, fantasy, nonfiction, and children’s books gather under one roof. Each author’s table will be themed to fit our Around the World in 80 Days adventure, complete with a custom map to their book’s setting—so you can explore new worlds with every stop!

Bonus treats:

  • The first visitors who purchase a book will receive a FREE tote bag!

  • With every book purchase, choose a FREE children’s book (while supplies last).

Whether you come to meet local writers, find your next favorite read, or simply enjoy a family-friendly afternoon, you’ll discover that there’s truly something for everyone at Once Upon a Book Fair.

Tanya will also be in attendance, sharing her award-winning Tranquility Series and greeting visitors who love compelling storytelling as much as she does.

Tanya Ross was born and raised in San Diego County, her “happy place.” Although Southern California is a particular kind of paradise, she desires a world where everyone is kind, compassionate, and upbeat, which became one of the themes of her novel, Rising Up.
